UPDATED DATE: Broome County IDA to Hold Public Hearing on Broome Technology Park Environmental Review April 23

The Broome County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) today announced that it will hold a public hearing on the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS) for the proposed Broome Technology Park on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m. at Johnson City High School as part of an ongoing public review process for the development concept.

The hearing provides an opportunity for residents, stakeholders, and local officials to offer in-person comments on the environmental analysis and proposed framework for future development at the site, located in the towns of Union and Maine. The DGEIS and other summary materials are available for review at www.broometechpark.com. Hard copies of the document also can be reviewed at the George F. Johnson Memorial Library in Endicott and Your Home Public Library in Johnson City.

Prepared in accordance with the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), the DGEIS evaluates the potential environmental and community impacts of a conceptual development across approximately 537 acres. The study examines a range of factors, including land use, water resources, transportation, infrastructure capacity, emergency services, and environmental conditions.

Among key findings are that even in sustainably designing the park to preserve roughly 77% of the proposed site for open space, natural buffers, and recreation areas, development on remaining land would support about 7,000 jobs, $690 million in earnings and $2.3 billion in economic activity at full buildout after 20 years.

In addition to the opportunity to provide in-person comments at the April 23 hearing, members of the public also can submit written comments by emailing techpark@theagency-ny.com or by mailing The Agency, ATTN: Broome Tech Park, 5 South College Drive, Suite 201, Binghamton, NY 13905.

The public comment period will remain open through May 8, 2026. Following the close of the public comment period, the IDA will review all substantive comments and prepare a Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement (FGEIS).

Public Hearing Details: Date: Wednesday, April 23, 2026 Time: 6 p.m. Location: Johnson City High School, 666 Reynolds Road, Johnson City, NY 13790.
